Stem
Cell Therapy (Regenerative Cell Therapy)
FACTS
-
Autologous Stem Cell Therapy is available to us through
Vet-Stem. We send Vet-Stem a fat sample from our patients (canine or
feline) and they return us stem cells within 48 hours for
intra-articular or intravenous injection.
-
Stem cell therapy is called Regenerative Cell Therapy because
the processed material the lab sends back to us contains somatic stem
cells which can differentiate into multiple types of tissue and secrete
multipotent progenitors that provide growth factors, cytokines and
other prohealing substances.
-
Current indications in dogs and cats include osteoarthritis
such as severe OA of the elbows, hips and/or knees, nonunion fractures,
tendon injuries and poorly healing wounds. Promising areas for thepory
include chronic hepatitis, immune disease and any other condition that
might benefit from regenerative cell theporyt. We can use Regenerative
Cell Thepory on these types of cases now if use is approved by Vet-Stem.
-
Somatic stem cell can differentiate into bone, cartilage,
nerve, muscle (including cardiac) and other types of tissue.
-
In one study in horses with chronic OA 66.7% returned to full
performance, 28.6% had measured improvement and 4.8% had no response.
Results from pilot studies on dogs with severe OA of the hip or elbows
are comparable to the results of the equine studies.
-
Client charges range from $1500.00 to $2500.00 total cost. If
the client chooses they can bank any remaining stem cells for $150.00
per year after the first year.
