| Jaw Fracture Release JAW FRACTURE RELEASE INSTRUCTIONS Feed only a very soft diet for 6-8 weeks to allow bone healing and to prevent movement at the fracture site and failure of the repair. If your pet prefers dry food, it can be soaked in warm water for 10-15 minutes to soften before feeding. Do not let your pet chew on any toys, or hard objects ( i.e. sticks outside) until the fracture is completely healed (usually 6-8 weeks). Do not let your pet scratch or paw the mouth. An Elizabethan collar must be used to prevent self-trauma. If possible try to keep the hair and skin around the mouth clean during the healing process. Call us if you notice a foul smell in the mouth or if face pawing cannot be controlled. A reevaluation or follow-up x-ray should be performed 3-8 weeks after the repair to ensure healing so we can safely release your pet to full use of the jaw. Call us if you have any questions or concerns during the healing process. 405-751-3920. |
