| Fragmented Coronoid Process
FRAGMENTED CORONOID PROCESS Fragmented coronoid process is a loose piece of cartilage which has detached from the supporting bone and is unstable in the elbow. This occurs in immature, large dogs, and in many cases is found on both elbows. Surgical removal of the process usually results in improved limb function if the dog is treated before extensive degenerative joint disease (arthritis) develops. If your pet's Cat Scan shows elbow incongruity, shortening the ulna appears to improve joint congruity and minimize arthritis. It is important that both procedures be performed to give your pet the best chance of improvement. It generally takes 3-4 weeks for the joint to heal. If your dog has not had their ulna cut then we recommend your dog. |
